Mumbai braces for a wet weekend as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has escalated weather alerts across the city and surrounding regions, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

Yellow Alert (June 12–15): Mumbai and Thane remain under a yellow alert through Sunday, June 15, due to the revival of monsoon currents. Heavy rain is expected to begin in the southern Konkan districts—Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Raigad—before advancing northward to Mumbai and Thane. These western coastal areas are currently humid, with Santacruz and Colaba observatories registering around 77–81 % humidity.

June has already seen significant rainfall—83.8 mm in Colaba and 87.5 mm in Santacruz—following an early southwest monsoon onset on May 26.On Friday, scattered light to moderate showers may give way to heavier rain at isolated locations throughout the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Thunderstorms, including lightning and wind gusts up to 50 km/h, are forecasted.
