Municipal authorities to tour 12 States to study best sanitation practices

The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department has constituted teams of municipal officials to undertake a nationwide tour to study more about the best practices in sanitation and solid waste management (SWM).

According to a press release from the department on Wednesday (August 20), the teams would visit Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal. The tour will provide insights into innovative waste management models, region-specific waste management approaches, urban innovations, being implemented across the country.

The study tour, scheduled between August 19 and 23, is being organised under the aegis of the Swachh Andhra Corporation as part of the State’s commitment to the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0.

As part of the programme, nine teams comprising municipal commissioners, sanitation inspectors, engineers and public health officials, have been deputed to different States. They would study advanced facilities such as wet and dry waste processing units, compressed biogas (CBG) plants, construction and demolition waste facilities, plastic and e-waste recycling units, and slaughter waste treatment plants.

Each team has been directed to interact with local municipal officials and document operational methodologies. Upon completion of the tour, the officials would submit a comprehensive report with recommendations tailored for implementation in Andhra Pradesh.
