Senior Congress leader and former KPCC president K. Muraleedharan here on Sunday hit out at both the CPI(M) and the BJP for demanding the resignation of MLA, Rahul Mamkootathil, while conveniently ignoring similar or worse cases within their own ranks.
“Rahul Mamkootathil, against whom not even a chargesheet has been filed, is being pressurised to quit, while Mukesh, who continues as an MLA despite an FIR in a sexual harassment case, faces no such demand. The people deserve to know the fairness in such selective targeting,” Mr. Muraleedharan said.
He added that the CPI(M) and the BJP were engaged in a coordinated PR campaign to damage the Congress youth leadership in Kerala. “Even Shafi Parambil, an elected MP, is being unnecessarily dragged into the controversy without a single complaint—official or otherwise—against him. Stopping a people’s representative on the streets without reason is nothing short of outrageous,” he said.
Mr. Muraleedharan was inaugurating the Thrissur North Constituency Congress Convention at Murali Mandiram in Poonkunnam. The meeting was presided over by North Constituency president Ashish Mootthedath. Senior Congress leaders participated.
