Bhubaneswar: A woman caretaker, 22, who was missing from the Bharatpur area since Jan, was found murdered with the police recovering her decomposed skeletal remains from a stone quarry at Tapang in Khurda district on Friday.
Police arrested her friend, Debasish Bisoi, 26, and cited personal motives behind the murder. Both the victim and Bisoi hailed from Nayagarh district and knew each other for several months. The woman was employed as a caretaker at a businessman’s residence, while Bisoi worked as an electrician in Bhubaneswar. According to police sources, the duo visited the Tapang quarry on Jan 24, where a heated argument ensued.
In a fit of rage, Bisoi allegedly pushed the woman into a deep quarry pit, resulting in her fatal fall onto the rocks.
He subsequently buried her body. The woman’s disappearance was reported to Bharatpur police station on Jan 27 by her employer and her family members. Allegedly frustrated by the perceived lack of action, her family sought intervention from the chief minister’s grievance cell last month, prompting the formation of a special investigation team, police sources said.
This reportedly led to the transfer of the inspector-in-charge of Bharatpur police station last week, police sources said.A vital breakthrough in the case came when investigators discovered a social media reel featuring Bisoi and the woman at the Tapang quarry. “It was a difficult case. Despite initially misleading the police and claiming innocence, further analysis of call records and intelligence inputs ascertained Bisoi’s involvement in the murder. Through technical data, we were able to solve the case. Bisoi has been arrested,” DCP Jagmohan Meena told TOI. The victim’s family identified her remains from her torn clothing, and a DNA test will be conducted to confirm her identity scientifically, the DCP said.
