With a view to allowing peaceful conduct of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, Muslim organisations in Belagavi have agreed to postpone Id Milad-un-Nabi festival in the city.
This was announced at a peace committee meeting convened by Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabrao in Belagavi on Monday.
Leaders of various organisations participated. They announced that they will postpone the Id celebrations to September 14 from Setember 5, not to clash with Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
Mr. Borase hailed the decision as a move towards communal harmony.
“This is the second year that the Muslim community are rescheduling their festival calendar to allow Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. They are not only cooperating with the police and district administration but also aiding smooth conduct of public festivals and law and order maintenance. This is commendable,” he said.
Deputy Commissioners of Police Narayan Baramani and Niranjan Raje Urs, Assistant Commissioner of Police Gangadhar B.M. and others were present.
