The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has decided to set up UMEED portal help desks to assist Waqf institution administrators, and iron out issues connected to documents and uploading them.

The move comes after key members of the AIMPLB convened a meeting to discuss the difficulties mutawallis and masjid managing committee members have been facing while using the portal. These include technical glitches as well.

The AIMPLB stated that there were several complaints from across the country with mutawallis pointing out that the portal is difficult to use. They claimed that uploading a single document connected to a waqf property takes a long time. An exhaustive list of documents are needed to be uploaded but the portal does not allow going to the next step, or screen, unless said documents are uploaded.

Waqf Help Desks, the AIMPLB stated, will be set up in every State and major location. The cooperation of Muslim organisations is being sought, with some already on board. These help desks will guide and assist the concerned individuals and mutawallis in uploading documents.

Meanwhile, the AIMPLB has filed an application in the Supreme Court seeking an extension of deadline and requesting that the system be made simpler and more user-friendly. “The next hearing on the portal issue is scheduled for October 28,” the board stated.

The board resolved to ensure they receive all cooperation from individuals and socio-religious Muslim organisations in making the second phase of demonstrations a success.

In the recent past, a delegation from the Telangana State Waqf Board participated in a South India Workshop on the UMEED portal in Bengaluru and sought an extension on the December 6 deadline by at least six months. The delegation also apprised the officials of the Ministry of Minority Affairs and Central Waqf Council of the concerns of the mutawalli community that included sharing personal data and other information such as whether one has been convicted and details of conviction, if applicable.
