Mystery shrouds death of Bengaluru woman missing from Kollur; body found in Sowparnika River

UDUPI: The mortal remains of a woman, who was earlier reported missing, was found on Saturday. Udupi police had launched a search after a woman identified as Vasudha Chakravarthy, 45, was reported missing.In a complaint, Vimala from Tyagarajanagar, Bengaluru, stated that her daughter Vasudha travelled in her car and parked it at a guest house of Sri Mookambika Temple, Kollur, Udupi district, on Aug 27. After parking, she went out but did not return. When the complainant tried calling her daughter on cellphone, there was no response. The next morning, the complainant came to Kollur and enquired with the temple staff, who informed her that Vasudha seemed disturbed and later ran away towards the road.

After that, her whereabouts were unknown.Despite searching in and around the temple area, no information about her was found, and she was reported missing. Based on a complaint, a case was registered at Kollur police station.Further searches in nearby areas and based on local inputs revealed that Vasudha probably jumped into Sowparnika River and was allegedly swept away by the current. Local residents, the Byndoor fire services team, and a team led by expert swimmer Eshwar Malpe carried out search operations, police said. Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said preliminary investigation suggests that her body was found about 3km away from the spot she allegedly jumped. The body was carried for 3km in deep forest towards plain land, he added.
