Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) on Monday organised an “Eco-Friendly Ganesha Making Workshop” with an aim to promote sustainability during the festival and discourage the use of idols made of plaster of Paris.
MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif inaugurated the workshop by symbolically crafting an idol to mark the occasion.
Nearly 300 students representing various institutions took part in the workshop. The participants were from government schools, JSS Public School, Vidyalakshmi International Public School, Gnanavahini Public School, Baden Powell School, Adijaambava School, MIT College, T.S. Subbanna School, Taralabhalu Educational Institution, GHPS Schools (Doddapete and Mandipete), Basic Primary School (Nazarbad), GHPS Thonachikoppalu, and Maharaja School (Bogadi Hostel), a press release said.
Artists from Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts guided the participants in crafting eco-friendly idols using natural clay.
To encourage creativity, a competition was also held. Sudeep Kumar and Indresh of MIT College bagged the first prize, while Pratham and Chaluvaraju of T.S. Subbanna School got the second and third prize respectively.
The Commissioner congratulated the winners and all other participants for their commitment to keeping Mysuru clean and green. The initiative is part of MCC’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness on eco-friendly practices and ensure festivals are celebrated in harmony with the environment.
The MCC has urged citizens to use clay idols this festive season and contribute to making Mysuru a model city for sustainable celebrations.
