With Dasara celebrations approaching, the Mysuru City Corporation has allocated Rs 9.48 crore for civil works to enhance the city's aesthetics. Preparations include sprucing up Mysuru Palace surroundings, key circles, and the 5 km Dasara procession route.
MYSURU: With just a few days left for Dasara celebrations, Mysuru City Corporation has decided to spend Rs 9.48 crore on civil works to deck up the city for the festival.As this year's Dasara festival is scheduled to be held from September 22 to October 2, the city civic body has taken up the works on a war footing to spruce up Mysuru Palace surroundings, besides prominent circles including Hardinge Circle, K R Circle, Chamarajendra Wadiyar Circle, and the 5 km Dasara procession route starting from the Mysuru Palace.It also took up the work to fix footpaths, repair drains, and replace broken balustrades along the procession route. These works also include beautifying the heritage structures with illumination. Parks in the major areas will be decked with ornamental flower pots to attract visitors.Among the total Rs 9.48 crore civil works initiated, MCC has set aside Rs 1.14 crore for barricading works along the procession route, in and around the palace, and other places. It has set aside Rs 5.88 crore for the removal of damaged balustrades, removal of kerbstones, repair, and pavement to deck up the Dasara procession route, Rs 90 lakh for painting and to spruce up major circles like Hardinge Circle, K R Circle, in and around the Palace, Rs 90 lakh for the installation of mobile toilets to maintain cleanliness along the procession route, Rs 80 lakh for the illumination of parks, and Rs 25 lakh for signages and other works.Speaking to TOI, MCC Commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif said that MCC has initiated Rs 9.48 crore to beautify the city for Dasara this year. As tenders were finalised, works will begin soon, he said.
