Mysuru farmers seek assured daytime power for pumpsets

Protesting against erratic and inadequate power supply to irrigation pumpsets, farmers and pumpset users staged a dharna here on Thursday, highlighting the distress faced by those dependent on agriculture for their livelihood.

Farmers, particularly those cultivating fruits and vegetables and providing employment to rural workers, said irregular power supply has disrupted irrigation schedules and threatened crop survival. The situation has worsened as many are forced to visit their fields at night (when power is supplied) to water crops, exposing themselves to the risk of wild animal attacks.
