Dimapur: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday termed Nagaland a land of courage, bravery and valour, adding that its people were bold and fearless.Speaking at a felicitation programme organised by Sri Marwari Sammelan at Lions Club in Dimapur, Birla said,“If we wish to realise the dream of a developed India, we must work in alignment with the culture and work ethic of Nagaland, a spirit that is deeply connected to the idea of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India).”While acknowledging that ‘new doors of development have opened in the northeast over the last decade’, Birla said the region still possessed immense potential for further growth.Birla lauded the people of the state for their creative spirit, innovative thinking and the courage to work hard, even in the face of adversity, adding that the state’s natural beauty and environment will attract more domestic and international tourists in the coming years.The Lok Sabha Speaker also called for attracting industries, investors and agricultural entrepreneurs and promoting tourism.Stating that India’s true strength lay in its diversity, cultures, cuisines, attires and traditions, Birla said despite the differences, “it is democracy that unites us”.Birla is scheduled to inaugurate the 22nd annual conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-III in Kohima on Monday.
