Nagarathpet fire accident: Building owners arrested

The city police have arrested building owners in connection with the fire accident that killed five people, including a couple and their two minor children, in Nagarathpet on Saturday.

The police are trying to ascertain the details of the building, violations and lack of safety measures from the arrested building owners Sandeep Shetty and Balakrishnaiah Shetty. A senior official said that almost every building in the narrow lane had violations at every stage and corrective measures were almost impossible, making the area a tinderbox and a fire safety risk. 

Meanwhile, the Forensic Science Laboratory, Madiwala, and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) are yet to submit their report ascertaining the reason for the mishap. Though an electric short circuit was suspected to have triggered the fire, the technical report is awaited.
