Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will visit Kuppam and formally release the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) waters to the region on August 30, said the officials of Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA) on Saturday.
The officials said that the water released through the Punganur branch canal has already entered the Kuppam branch canal, reaching V. Kota on the outskirts of the constituency by Saturday evening. They expect the waters to flow into Kuppam town within the next 48 hours.
The HNSS project envisages providing irrigation and drinking water to the regions that receive less rainfall in Rayalaseema districts. The present Kuppam branch canal is projected to benefit thousands of acres in Kuppam and surrounding mandals.
During his visit, the Chief Minister is also likely to review pending development projects in the region and hold discussions with officials and local representatives. Security and logistical arrangements are being made in advance of the Chief Minister’s visit. Mr. Naidu will arrive at his residence in Kuppam on August 29. After night halt, he will perform the ‘Jala Harathi’ to the Paramasamudram village tank adjoining the HNSS branch canal at the outskirts of Kuppam on August 30. This event will be followed by a public meeting.
Officials said that trial runs and inspections are being conducted to ensure a smooth flow of water through the distribution network before the formal release event.
