A video from Nashik’s Satpur area triggered outrage, showing a man dragging a stray dog, allegedly killed by him, behind a motorcycle on the road.

As the man drove the bike ahead, the animal was dragged along the road with several other stray dogs chasing behind, according to the video of the alleged incident.

Police said a case has been registered against the accused at Satpur police station, and further investigation is underway.

In a separate incident in Pune, another biker was filmed dragging his pet dog with a leash tied to his bike’s handle.

The video shows the helpless animal resisting as the biker yanks the leash and continues to ride, prompting further anger online.

These shocking episodes come at a time when the Supreme Court recently modified its earlier directive on the handling of stray dogs.

The court clarified that strays picked up under its August 11 order would be released back after sterilisation and vaccination, except those suffering from rabies or deemed aggressive.

The three-judge bench, comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and NV Anjaria, also expanded the scope of the case beyond Delhi-NCR, making it applicable across the country.

Animal welfare groups have called for stricter enforcement of laws to prevent such cruelty, arguing that repeated incidents highlight gaps in protection for both stray and domestic dogs.
