A probe into an extortion case concluded with an arrest for multiple sexual exploitation cases in Maharashtra’s Nashik. The incident came to light after the accused, identified as 63-year-old Ravindra Ganpat Erande, had approached the police claiming that some individuals were trying to extort money from him.

Erande, who described himself as a journalist and social activist, was arrested last Friday following fresh findings in the case.

Earlier, police had detained four men for allegedly stealing a tablet from Erande’s office in the Satpur area and attempting to extort Rs 12 lakh by threatening to leak his private photos and videos online, according to a report by NDTV.

During the investigation, officers seized four mobile phones, two pen drives, and a memory card from the suspects.

After examining these devices, police discovered 121 obscene and objectionable video clips. According to officials, many of these videos featured women and acquaintances of Erande. This discovery shifted the focus of the investigation towards Erande himself.

According to police cited by the outlet, Erande allegedly lured women by offering help in setting up small businesses or promising government jobs for their children. He is accused of sexually exploiting them and secretly recording explicit videos.

Several videos were also found stored on his office computer, organised in folders named after different women.

As the probe continues, the officials have identified eight women so far. Their statements are being recorded and the officials believe that there may be more victims. Based on the evidence and testimonies, more serious charges and additional cases are likely to be registered against Erande.

The police have urged other possible victims to come forward and file complaints, assuring that their identities will remain confidential.
