“Natural farming is a pure organic farming method that benefits farmers with high yields and chemical-free produce, ultimately benefiting consumers with healthy vegetables and horticulture produce,” Dean of Horticulture College in Bidar S.V. Patil has said.

He was speaking at a workshop on natural farming organized on an agriculture field belonging to a progressive farmer Vaijinath Nidodakar at Kamthana village in Bidar on Monday.

The workshop was jointly organized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the Institute of Farming System Research, Meerut in Uttar Pradesh and the Education Extension Unit of the College of Horticulture in Bidar.

Highlighting the benefits of chemical-free farming for both farmers and consumers, Dr. Patil said that natural farming can help prevent health issues like cancer and other illnesses.

Laying emphasis on the significance of natural farming, he advised farmers to use vermicompost and organic manure known as Jeevamruth, which is prepared using jaggery, gram flour, water, cow dung and forest soil.

This organic manure is a key component of natural farming, he added.

Mr. Nidodakar shared his experience of successfully cultivating various crops like strawberries, papaya, ridge gourd, ginger, drumstick and tomatoes using natural farming methods. He encouraged farmers to visit his farm to witness the benefits of natural farming.

The Horticulture College provided natural farming kits to farmers. The workshop promoted sustainable agricultural practices and encouraged farmers to adopt chemical-free farming methods for better health and higher yields.

Senior professor from the Horticulture College Mohmad Farooq and progressive farmers were present.
