Malloujula Venugopal Rao, popularly known as Sonu, a Polit Bureau member of the CPI/Maoist, laid down arms on Tuesday in Gadhchiroli, Maharashtra, alongside 60 other Maoist cadres. Officials described the development as a significant setback for the Maoist organisation, which has been active in several central and eastern states.

RESULT OF SUSTAINED SECURITY OPERATIONS

Sources attribute the surrender to prolonged and coordinated operations by the police under the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with the support of state governments across the country. These operations have steadily weakened Maoist networks and disrupted their organisational infrastructure.
