The Golden State Warriors may be considering a blockbuster trade ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season, with Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey emerging as a potential target. According to recent reports, Ivey, the former No.
5 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, is on the trading block - a development that could open the door for a major roster shakeup in San Francisco.
Golden State Warriors’ Urgent Need for Support Around Stephen Curry
With Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler leading the charge, the Golden State Warriors are aiming for another championship run. However, questions remain about the depth and consistency of their rotation. The front office could be seeking a player who contributes immediately while also fitting into the team’s long-term plans.Golden State’s “two-timeline” approach - blending veteran leadership with young talent - paid off in 2022 when the team captured the NBA title. Now, with the new season approaching, a similar balance might be the key to keeping their championship window open.

Jaden Ivey, now 23, was having a breakout 2024-25 campaign before suffering a season-ending broken fibula in his left leg on January 1 against the Orlando Magic. Despite the shortened season, he posted career-best numbers:
Stat | 2024-25 Season |
Points Per Game | 17.6 |
Rebounds Per Game | 4.1 |
Assists Per Game | 4.0 |
3P% | 40.9% |
Games Played | 30 |
The 6-foot-4 guard’s combination of strength, agility, and leaping ability has been evident since his rookie season.
In 2024-25, his game showed greater polish, particularly with his improved three-point shooting.
Why Detroit Might Move Ivey
“According to an executive with potential knowledge of the situation, Jaden Ivey is on the trading block,” ClutchPoints’ RB Hayek reported. He added, “Despite his talent, Ivey is one of the major Pistons trade candidates because the team has learned how to play without him. Caris LeVert is the backup, and Detroit could add more players down the line.”Detroit’s smaller lineup and evolving roster needs could be pushing them to explore trade possibilities. If they are aiming to bring in more versatile talent, the Golden State Warriors could step forward with an appealing package.
The Proposed Trade Package
One potential deal could involve sending Moses Moody - Golden State’s 2021 No. 14 pick - and Brandin Podziemski - their 2023 No. 19 pick - to Detroit.

The Risk and Reward for Golden State
Acquiring Ivey would not come cheap. His $32.9 million contract and rising profile make him a high-value asset. For Golden State, the gamble lies in sacrificing two young players for a guard returning from injury. However, if Ivey regains his form, the payoff could be significant - providing the Golden State Warriors with a consistent scoring threat for years to come.
