Two days ahead of the Vice-President election, the ruling NDA and the Opposition INDIA bloc have started preparations to “train” their MPs on the voting procedure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, other BJP Ministers and MPs participated in a two-day workshop, Sansad Karyashala, that began in New Delhi on Sunday (September 7, 2026). The INDIA bloc will hold a mock polling session for its MPs on Monday (September 8).

The BJP workshop also passed a resolution on the GST reforms. The resolution said the GST reforms, guided by the Prime Minister’s conviction, had further simplified the system and placed the citizen at its heart. Mr. Modi attended the session for the entire day and photographs released through his social media handles showed him sitting in the last row at the venue. The NDA MPs will participate in the workshop on Monday (September 8).
The resolution on GST reforms said, “Rates on essentials such as food and medicines as well as prices of electronic goods have been significantly reduced; distortions such as inverted duties are being corrected; and procedures for small businesses, exporters and startups are being streamlined. These reforms reflect the goal of our government to bring ease in the lives of our citizens, empower traders and reinforce India’s path to self-reliance. Steady growth in monthly collection touching ₹2 lakh crore is a certain indication of greater compliance. It is also indicative of buoyancy in our economy.”
Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has cancelled the dinner that he had planned to host for the Opposition MPs on Monday, a day before the Vice-Presidential elections. “...keeping in view the havoc and misery created by floods in Punjab and in various parts of the country, expressing empathy with the affected people, a considered view has been taken to cancel the dinner scheduled to be hosted in honour of our combined candidate Justice (Retd.) B. Sudershan Reddy,” Mr. Kharge said in a communication to the MPs. However, a mock poll demonstration would be held in Central Hall, Samvidhan Sadan, the Congress chief said.
The BJP too had cancelled a dinner for its MPs, considering the flood situation in the country.
