Aizawl: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has successfully completed several projects in Mizoram, focusing on healthcare, rural development, and livelihood enhancement, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.
Additionally, over Rs 15 crore has been allocated for new road and infrastructure initiatives in the state.A major highlight is the completion of the “Establishment of Dialysis Unit at 50-Bedded Hospital, Lawngtlai,” inaugurated on Oct 28.This Rs 55-lakh project introduces life-saving dialysis services to Lawngtlai district, alleviating the burden on patients who previously traveled long distances for treatment.
The facility, funded by the NEC, is equipped with modern dialysis machines and staffed by trained technicians.The directorate of health and family welfare, govt of Mizoram, will oversee its operation, with HLL Infra Tech Services Ltd. responsible for equipment maintenance. The unit is expected to benefit patients from Lawngtlai and neighbouring southern districts, reducing healthcare-related hardships and costs.
In Lunglei district, two rural development projects funded by the NEC have been completed, aimed at enhancing essential services and generating livelihoods. The “Proposal of Identified Block for Providing Key Identified Service at West Bunghmun Block” was completed at a cost of Rs 4.92 crore. This initiative improved healthcare, education, and connectivity while promoting sustainable income-generating activities, empowering families in one of Mizoram’s more backward regions.Similarly, the “Proposal of Identified Block for Providing Key Identified Service at Marpara South Village, West Bunghmun Block,” completed on Oct 29 at Rs 1.87 crore, improved essential infrastructure in the village, addressing local needs in health, education, and livelihood creation.The NEC secretariat also announced fund releases for ongoing works in Mizoram during Oct. Under the Scheme of NEC (SoNE), Rs 4.50 crore was disbursed for the “Establishment of State Veterinary Information & Resource Centre, Mizoram.”Additional allocations under the NESIDS (Road) scheme include Rs 1.21 crore for the improvement of Lawngtlai-Tuipui Ferry Road, Rs 5.54 crore for the construction of the Khankaw-Rongura Hmun Road in Serchhip district, and Rs 8.18 crore for the Thenzawl-Sialsuk via Sathlur and Lau River Road.In total, Rs 15.58 crore has been released for road connectivity projects in Mizoram, underscoring NEC's commitment to advancing infrastructure and inclusive growth in the northeastern region.A major highlight is the completion of the dialysis unit at the 50-bed hospital, Lawngtlai that was inaugurated on Oct 28.
