Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Saturday sought a Madras High Court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the murder of Scheduled Caste youth Kavin Selvaganesh in Tirunelveli.
He also urged the Tamil Nadu government to enact a separate law to prevent caste-based killings.
Speaking at a demonstration organised by the VCK in Chennai, Mr. Thirumavalavan said that since the parents of the accused, Surjith, who killed Kavin Selvaganesh, were police personnel, an SIT monitored by the Madras High Court should be formed to ensure a fair investigation.
He said the State government had the power to enact a law against caste-based killings, and should not wait for the Centre to introduce such legislation.
‘Create separate unit’
He also demanded the constitution of a separate intelligence unit in the Tamil Nadu police to monitor and prevent caste-based killings, similar to the ‘Q’ Branch.
