Neeraj Chopra, fresh from a Paris Diamond League win, aims to shine at the Ostrava Golden Spike event in the Czech Republic.

Fresh from a win at the Paris Diamond League, Neeraj Chopra is all set to shine yet again, this time at the Ostrava Golden Spike event on Tuesday in the Czech Republic. The two-time Olympic medallist had withdrawn from the last two editions of the tournament because of injury.

Neeraj is expected to face strong competition in the nine-man field, including Rio Olympics gold medallist, Germany’s Thomas Rohler and two-time world champion Anderson Peters.

The competition holds special significance as Neeraj will be competing on his coach Jan Zelezny’s home turf, for the first time since he roped in the three-time Olympic gold-medallist as his coach.

Neeraj beat Julian Weber to win in Paris with a throw of 88.16m last week. He said that with Zelezny by his side as his coach and with his determination, he is confident of good results.

Neeraj is riding high on his maiden 90 m-plus throw that he achieved in the season-opening Diamond League meet in Doha.

“I am really happy to work with such a great athlete and coach. I’ve already thrown 90m this year after a little bit more improvement in technique. So let’s see when it comes next time, but I am ready," Neeraj said.

“Main goal for the season is World Championships in Tokyo," the two-time Olympic medallist added.

Neeraj said that a part of his excitement for the Ostrava event comes from watching on TV, greats like Usain Bolt compete in the tournament in the past.

“When I was a kid, I watched a lot of videos and photos of athletes like Usain Bolt competing here. I came last year, but I didn’t compete because of an injury," Neeraj said.
