Neeraj Chopra leads India’s 19-member squad at World Athletics Championships 2025, with Gulveer Singh and Pooja competing in multiple events.

The full list of 19 athletes who’ll represent India at the World Athletics Championships 2025 is out. The country will participate in 21 events across men’s and women’s categories, with Gulveer Singh (5000m and 10,000m) and Pooja (1500m and 800m) the only two competing in multiple.

The team will be led by double Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra, who has a wild card entry in the javelin event.  The senior selection committee of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) met on Thursday but pushed the team reveal because it was waiting for clarity on athletes in borderline cases who could end up qualified.

Atheletes like javelin thrower Rohit Yadav and race walker Sandeep Kumar were just one spot down the bracket of qualified athletes and have now been included.

Injuries have affected the entry of two top atheletes. Asian Games gold winner and 3000m steeplechaser, Avinash Sable, has been ruled out after ACL surgery. Meanwhile, heptathlete Nandini Agasara, who qualified for the showpiece as the Asian champion, is also recovering from an elbow injury.

Chopra is the only one with a Wildcard entry by virtue of being the defending champion. Apart from him, only Sable, Parul Chaudhary, Gulveer Singh, and Praveen Chithravel breached the automatic qualification mark. Women’s 100m hurdler Jyothi Yarraji was also in the running but her season, too, ended due to an injury.
