A 70-year-old Nepali man was bludgeoned to death by a younger acquaintance following an argument over money and family matters in south Bengaluru on Sunday.
The victim, Jerilal, had been working as a security guard at Sharadha Farms in Talaghattapura for the past 15 years. Police said the accused, 28-year-old Mahindra, is a Bengaluru native with Nepali roots. He was previously employed as housekeeping staff but had been unemployed for the past six months.
According to the investigation, Jerilal and Mahindra had known each other for several years. Mahindra often visited Jerilal at the shed where he lived on the farm.
Around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, the two got into a heated argument. In a fit of rage, Mahindra allegedly picked up a wooden chapati roller and struck Jerilal on the face and head multiple times. Jerilal died on the spot, and Mahindra fled the scene, The Times Of India reported.
Jerilal’s distant relative, Suresh, later discovered his body. Farm workers confirmed that Mahindra had been seen entering the area earlier in the day.
Police in Talaghattapura caught Mahindra on Monday, and arrested him. During the questioning, he reportedly confessed to the crime.
A case of murder has been registered and investigation in underway.
