'New Maestro': AC Milan Confirm The Arrival Of Luka Modric

AC Milan have confirmed the arrival of Croatia skipper Luka Modric, signing a one-year deal.

AC Milan on Monday night confirmed the arrival of Croatia skipper and one of the best midfielders of the current generation, Luka Modric, into their squad. The Italian club announced that the 39-year-old star footballer has signed a one-year deal with them.

Last week, AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said that Modric would head to the San Siro from Real Madrid after the Club World Cup.

Modric, who turns 40 in two months, joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur 13 years ago and had been linked with a move to Italy since last month, after announcing that he would leave the former at the end of his contract.

In 13 seasons with Real Madrid, Modric scored 43 times in 597 matches and became their most decorated footballer of all time, winning six Champions Leagues, five Club World Cups, one Intercontinental Cup, five European Super Cups, four LaLiga titles, two Copa del Rey titles and five Spanish Super Cups.

“AC Milan are delighted to announce Luka Modric has signed a contract with the club until 30 June 2026 with an option for a one-year extension until 30 June 2027," AC Milan said in a statement.

In 2018, Modric won the Ballon d’Or, the crowning jewel in a career that has seen him become one of the greatest footballers in the history of the game.

Modric was in Milan earlier on Monday to undergo medical tests, but according to Italian media, he will begin training with his teammates next month.

“I’m very happy to be here to start a new chapter in my career. A big hug to everyone," Modric said in a video on AC Milan’s social media platforms.

Allegri is back at the helm of the club, having led them to the Serie A title 14 years ago during his first spell in charge between 2010 and 2014.

AC Milan’s first match of the new season is in the Italian Cup on Sunday, August 17.
