New school session in CG begins with tree-planting pledge

As the new academic session commenced on Tuesday, students at a government school in Dhamtari district took an environmental pledge, reaffirming their commitment to protecting nature and promoting sustainability.

The new academic session at the government middle school in Chamtari’s Luge village commenced with a unique environment protection drive on Shala Praveshotsav (school entry day) on Tuesday.

Under the campaign titled “Ped Lagabo, Tabe To Phal Khabo” (Plant trees to eat fruits), social worker couple Tumanchand Sahu, an income tax officer and Ranjita Sahu distributed guava and jamun fruits to all students of the school.During the event, they emphasised that planting and preserving trees today is essential to secure nutritious fruits for the future. The students enthusiastically accepted the fruits and pledged to follow the campaign’s core message. In a key initiative, the students resolved not to discard the jamun seeds after eating the fruit. Instead, they collected the seeds to scatter them along roadsides, ponds, riverbanks, and vacant spaces to help grow more trees. This activity aimed to teach children how small efforts contribute significantly to environment conservation. The initiative mirrored the popular proverb “Aam ke aam, guthliyon ke daam“, combining the enjoyment of the fruit with a commitment to ecological sustainability. The overarching message of the campaign was to plant trees, consume the fruit, and use the seeds to grow more trees.Narendra Sinha, headmaster of the school, termed the initiative an ideal start to the academic session. He stated that such programmes foster a love for nature and a sense of social responsibility among students.
