As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Social Justice department, an intensive campaign titled ‘Anbu’ will be launched in the State for the development of children facing intellectual challenges, Minister for Social Justice R. Bindu has said.
Inaugurating a new office complex of the Social Justice department at the Alappuzha Collectorate compound on Friday, Dr. Bindu said schemes giving priority to children with intellectual challenges and initiatives to bring to society’s attention the difficulties faced by them, their families, and persons with disabilities would be announced.
She said the Prejodhanam scheme aimed at providing skill development and vocational training for them would also be launched. In addition, a scheme ensuring short-term accommodation facilities for them and their family members would be implemented, the Minister added.
At the function, Dr. Bindu distributed financial assistance to beneficiaries of the Social Justice department’s Pariraksha scheme. It was followed by a keyboard performance by Muhammed Yaseen, who has overcome physical limitations. Cultural programmes by students of special schools and residents of various welfare institutions in the district were also staged.
The 3042.39 sq ft office complex was constructed at a cost of ₹1.28 crore.
