New waste plant at Sonsoddo soon: Sawant

Margao: CM Pramod Sawant on Friday claimed that a new waste management plant will be set up at Sonsoddo, Margao, soon. With the legacy garbage dump of Sonsoddo almost eliminated by the bio-mining method, Sawant said, “I am happy Sonsoddo got cleaned during my tenure.

”Sawant was addressing reporters after a meeting he chaired with heads and senior officials of various govt departments on monsoon preparedness and review of development works. Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuyekar, and South Goa collector Egna Cleetus were also present.The issue of unsafe buildings in Margao also figured in the meeting. The chief minister said that 10-12 buildings are identified to be in a precarious condition. “Of these, two are most unsafe. The PWD has been told to bring them down immediately,” Sawant said.The chief minister further said that he directed the PWD to ensure that no waterlogging takes place on the roads and to ensure that all the drains are cleaned.
