Remove shops along NH-27 near cremation site

Guwahati: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has identified unauthorised shops near the cremation ground of late singer Zubeen Garg in the Sonapur area of Kamrup (Metropolitan) district, along NH-27, which has encroached upon the highway. In an order, NHAI’s Project Implementation Unit (PIU) has specifically named the Lakhi Hotel near Patharkuchi in Sonapur as an unauthorised occupant along NH-27 and has urged the concerned authorities to remove such shops within the next seven days. NHAI emphasised that these unauthorised structures pose significant safety hazards, disrupting vehicle movement and increasing the risk of accidents and traffic congestion.Biswa Jyoti Lahkar, project director of NHAI PHU Guwahati, said, “The unauthorised occupation of the shop had taken place on the left-hand side of the highway, covering an area of approximately eight square meters.”
