Which Highways are covered? Details here

As per reports, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has rolled out its much-anticipated FASTag Annual Pass, a game-changer for private vehicle owners seeking seamless travel across India’s National Highways (NHs) and National Expressways (NEs).

FASTag Annual Pass was launched on August 15, 2025, coinciding with India’s 79th Independence Day.

The pass offers unlimited toll-free access for one year or up to 200 trips, whichever comes first, at a fixed fee of INR 3,000 for the 2025–26 period.

FASTag Annual Pass is valid on which highways in India?

As per IHMCL – Indian Highway Management Company Limited’s FAQ section, the FASTag Annual Pass is valid at NHAI-managed toll plazas across National Highways and Expressways, including major routes like NH-19 (Delhi–Kolkata), NH-48 (North-South Corridor), and NH-44.

However, it does not cover state-managed highways, municipal roads, or parking facilities. In these places or situations, the regular FASTag fees apply.

Certain expressways are excluded, meaning, the FASTag Annual Pass is not valid on these expressways. These are:

  • Yamuna Expressway
  • Dwarka Expressway
  • Purvanchal Expressway
  • Agra–Lucknow Expressway
  • Mumbai–Pune Expressway
  • Samruddhi Mahamarg
  • Atal Setu

Keep in mind that travelers on these routes must use their FASTag’s standard balance for toll payments.

What is a FASTag Annual Pass?

This pass is designed exclusively for non-commercial cars, jeeps, and vans, and it aims to simplify toll payments and reduce congestion at toll plazas.

The FASTag Annual Pass costs INR 3,000. If you are a frequent traveler, the pass means a significant savings—potentially up to INR 7,000 annually, as compared to regular toll fees. Without the pass, 200 trips will cost approximately INR 10,000. The initiative has a positive reaction from users as over 5 lakh passes were sold within the first four days.

How does it work?

The pass integrates seamlessly with existing FASTag accounts, eliminating the need for a new tag. To activate, vehicle owners must:

  • Ensure their FASTag is active, properly affixed on the vehicle’s windshield, and linked to a valid Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) via the VAHAN database. FASTags registered solely with a chassis number are ineligible.
  • Visit the Rajmarg Yatra mobile app or NHAI website, enter vehicle and FASTag details, and pay INR 3,000 using UPI, debit/credit card, or net banking (wallet balances are not accepted).
  • Receive SMS confirmation within 2–24 hours, with activation typically completed in two hours.
