Patna: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted a raid in Khetalpur village under the Aurai police station area of Muzaffarpur district in the early hours of Sunday – its second operation in the district within the past 15 days.
The action has sparked fresh speculation about a wider probe into alleged underworld and anti-national networks operating in the region. The latest raid comes days after the NIA arrested an operative from the Garha police station area of Muzaffarpur who was allegedly linked to Pakistan-based arms smuggler Shahzad Bhatti. Sources suspect Sunday’s operation may also be connected to the same international arms smuggling and terror-funding network.Acting on intelligence inputs, an NIA team, accompanied by local police personnel, reached the residence of Vikas Kumar in Khetalpur and carried out a search operation.Sources said the agency had received information regarding Vikas’s alleged suspicious activities and possible links to anti-national syndicates. During the raid, NIA personnel searched the premises and questioned family members for several hours.
Digital devices and important documents were examined and seized as part of the investigation.A senior police officer said, “The raid was carried out by the NIA at the house of Vikas. He and his family members were questioned, but later released. The local police were not briefed about the recovery or the reason behind the raid.”Officials have not issued any formal statement regarding the purpose of the operation or any material recovered during the search.
