In a significant counterintelligence operation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted searches at 15 locations across eight states in connection with an espionage case involving Pakistani intelligence operatives.
The raids took place in Delhi, Maharashtra (including Mumbai), Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Assam, and West Bengal. The operation targeted people suspected of having links to Pakistan-based intelligence agents.
During the searches, NIA teams recovered a range of digital devices, sensitive financial records, and other incriminating evidence. These materials are currently being analysed for information that could further expose a suspected espionage network orchestrated from across the border.
Initial findings suggest that the individuals under investigation had acted as financial intermediaries and had direct or indirect connections with operatives working for Pakistani intelligence.
These suspects allegedly facilitated the flow of sensitive information in exchange for money, thus posing a threat to national security.
The case—registered as RC-12/2025/NIA/DLI—was initiated by the NIA on May 20, following the arrest of an individual accused of leaking classified national security data to Pakistani operatives since 2023. Investigations revealed that the accused had received funds through multiple domestic channels for his involvement in the information leak.
The case is being probed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.
The NIA has stated that its investigations are ongoing, and more arrests and searches may follow as the agency works to dismantle the espionage network.
