Nick Cassidy secured his maiden podium for his new team, Citroen Racing, at the Sao Paulo E-Prix in Brazil on Saturday. It was even more special as Cassidy started from the 15th position on the grid but finished third.
After saying goodbye to Jaguar TCS Racing and finishing second in the Formula E World Championship last season, this first podium is enough to boost the confidence of the new Formula E team. Cassidy has now spoken about racing for his new team and how everything fell into place according to their strategy.
Nick Cassidy hails first Citroen Racing podium at Sao Paulo E-Prix
Nick Cassidy did not see a podium coming after starting among the back markers on the grid. Speaking about what was going through his mind ahead of the race, the Kiwi driver said, "I was kind of heartbroken with qualifying, to be honest, not only for myself but for all the guys, because I think they deserved better than that.”But he finally felt at peace after the race. “Very, very happy for everyone in our team, it has been a really cool start and I have really enjoyed the last few months and everything we have gone through to arrive here. We had a really good car all weekend, and so I am glad to show that in the race. We have been working hard and of course that means you feel the highs more but you also feel the lows more, but to start with a podium is the best thing,” he said.
Cassidy revealed how his podium came as a result of perfect teamwork. He said, “This result is awesome for everyone at Citroen Racing. It has been a big off-season, and it was not an easy day with qualifying not really going to plan. I am very happy for everyone to start this way with a podium, and points-wise it is more than we could have expected. It was a great strategy from the team, communication was very good, their plan was very good, a lot of information before the race, and I think we executed more or less what we said.
It is amazing to have Citroen in Formula E and to start with the team like this is fantastic.”Andretti’s Jake Dennis won the Sao Paulo E-Prix, with Formula E Season 11 champion Oliver Rowland finishing second and Cassidy in third place. The next race is the Mexico E-Prix on January 10 next year. Also Read: Formula E Season 12 full driver line-up: Nick Cassidy joins Citroen Racing, Antonio Felix da Costa takes his place at Jaguar
