Nigerian national arrested for duping woman of ₹5.5 lakh on pretext of marriage

Bagalkot district police have arrested a Nigerian national on charges of duping a woman of ₹5.5 lakh on the pretext of marriage.

A team of officers arrested the accused, identified as, Oliver Ogovu Okichikuvu in Mumbai. He has been brought to Bagalkot.

According to the police, the accused had conned a divorcee from Ilkal in the Bagalkot district with the false identity of Satya Amit, an Indian living in London, and promised to marry her. He asked the victim to transfer ₹5.5 lakh, falsely claiming that customs officers were seeking Indian currency to release the one crore U.S. dollars that he was carrying while coming to India. The woman transferred the money into his account only to realise later that she was duped.

The case was registered in Ilkal a few months ago and transferred to the Cyber, Narcotics, and Economic offences wing in Bagalkot.
