Nintendo has raised its Switch 2 sales forecast to 19 million units for the fiscal year ending March 2026, up from its previous estimate of 15 million units, signaling robust demand for the gaming giant's latest flagship console.The Japanese company reported selling 10.36 million Switch 2 units since the console's June launch, with 4.54 million sales occurring in the most recent quarter. The upward revision represents a more than 25 percent increase from Nintendo's original projections.
Switch 2 momentum drives record financial performance
The console's success has translated into exceptional financial results. Revenue surged over 90% year-on-year while profit climbed more than 270% in Nintendo's fiscal second quarter ended September 30.
Combined hardware and software sales drove a 110 percent revenue surge to ¥1,099.5 billion (around $7.1 billion) between April and September.Popular titles "Mario Kart World" and "Donkey Kong Bonanza" have helped drive 11.95 million software units sold for the console in the quarter. Nintendo's confidence in sustained momentum prompted the company to also raise its full-year net sales forecast to 2.25 trillion yen from 1.9 trillion yen.
The Switch 2's performance positions it as the fastest-selling console in history, while the original Switch approaches 154.01 million lifetime sales, nearing the all-time record. Nintendo plans to maintain momentum through the critical holiday season with upcoming releases including "Kirby Air Riders" and "Metroid Prime 4: Beyond."The company aims to "keep the momentum of released titles and continuously introduce new titles to expand the platform's user base" as it replicates the original Switch's multi-year success strategy.
