NIT Rourkela secures 1,274 offers in 2024-25 placement drive

MUMBAI: Defying the headwinds of global recession and industry layoffs, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela has reported robust placement outcomes for the academic year 2024-25.

The institute announced that its students received 1,274 job offers along with 509 six-month internships, many of which are expected to translate into pre-placement offers.Across all programmes, the highest cost-to-company package stood at Rs. 62.44 lakh per annum. The flagship B.Tech programme registered an average CTC of Rs. 14.10 lakh per annum, while the M.Tech programme averaged Rs. 13.48 lakh. The top internship offer touched Rs.

1.26 lakh per month. More than 85 students secured annual packages above Rs. 30 lakh, underlining the strong demand for NIT Rourkela graduates despite volatility in the job market.Recruiter participation was wide-based, with 373 companies visiting the campus, of which nearly half (48.36%) were first-time recruiters. The majority of firms came from the software and IT services sector, followed by manufacturing, BFSI, electronics, education, power, heavy industries, and oil & gas.

Newer domains such as aerospace, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing also contributed to placements.

Prominent recruiters included Google, AMD, Qualcomm, Wells Fargo, JSW, Amazon, ExxonMobil, DE Shaw & Co, Accenture, Barclays, Deloitte, MathWorks, ITC, Texas Instruments, American Express, HP, and Bharat Petroleum.

The institute recorded particularly strong outcomes in its B.Tech programmes, with an overall placement percentage of 82.20%.

Certain departments outperformed this average significantly—Ceramic Engineering achieved 97.73%, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering 97.06%, and Computer Science and Engineering 94.48%. More than 80% of students from Electronics and Communication, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, and Metallurgical & Materials Engineering also secured offers.According to Prof. Surajit Das, Head of the Career Development Centre at NIT Rourkela, the software and IT sector led the placements with a 22.9% share, while manufacturing accounted for 12.4%, BFSI for 11.1%, education for 10.8%, power and heavy industries for 8.1%, and oil & gas for 6.1%.

The roles most in demand included software engineer, software development engineer, hardware engineer, graduate trainee engineer, data analyst, and business analyst.Speaking on the outcome, Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Director of NIT Rourkela, said the results reflect both the resilience of the institute’s students and the support of its Career Development Centre. “Despite a competitive global job market, the placement outcomes this year highlight the dedication and capabilities of our students,” he said. “We remain committed to nurturing future-ready talent equipped with industry-relevant skills and a strong foundation in innovation.

The 2024-25 placement drive, with its scale and diversity of offers, reaffirms NIT Rourkela’s standing as a key talent pipeline for leading firms in India and abroad.
