On the occasion of World Environment Day, June 5, actress and environmental advocate Nitu Chandra led a spirited beach cleanup drive at Mahim Beach, Mumbai. As an Eco Ambassador, she brought passion, purpose, and her celebrity influence to the cause, inspiring hundreds of volunteers to take tangible action for the planet. The cleanup drive, aimed at restoring marine ecosystems and promoting civic responsibility, saw enthusiastic participation from local residents, students, and environmental enthusiasts. Volunteers collected large quantities of plastic, glass, and other non-biodegradable waste, highlighting the urgent need to reduce human impact on coastal ecosystems.Speaking at the event, Nitu shared, “Our planet gives us so much; it’s time we give back.
This beach cleanup is not just about clearing trash — it’s about clearing our mindset and taking responsibility. If each one of us does our bit, we can create the ripple that turns into a wave of positive change.”She also reflected on her long-standing commitment to social and environmental causes. She said, “I’ve been part of clean-up drives and environmental work for over five or six years now but never really spoke about it.
Whether as a brand ambassador for the Cancer Patients Aid Association or Teen Cancer America or supporting sports for underprivileged children — I’ve always believed in doing meaningful work quietly.
But now, I feel it’s high time we make these efforts big and visible. Our oceans, marine life, and even voiceless animals are suffering because of plastic and pollution. It’s time we take action, come together, and protect the only home we all share.”The event was not just about cleaning, but also about educating. Through banners, interactive sessions, and eco-friendly giveaways, the campaign urged people to adopt sustainable lifestyles, say no to plastic, and care for all living beings.
