“The meeting with National Medical Commission (NMC) officials concluded on a positive note with the NMC expressing satisfaction over the information provided to them regarding faculty strength and infrastructure in government medical colleges in Telangana,” said Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr. A. Narendra Kumar.
The DME, along with Health Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu, appeared before the NMC in New Delhi on Wednesday, after the commission sent show-cause notices to 26 government medical colleges in the State earlier this month, flagging deficiencies in infrastructure, clinical material, and teaching personnel.
In the meeting, NMC officials were briefed about the challenges faced by the State following the simultaneous establishment of a large number of government medical colleges.
The Health Secretary and DME explained that the sudden expansion led to initial shortages in faculty and delays in developing basic facilities. They assured the commission that the Telangana government is committed to strengthening medical education infrastructure.
The DME informed the NMC that TG has already allocated the necessary funds for the projects and issued permissions for the recruitment of teaching staff.
