Biometrics are not captured before the age of five because fingerprints and iris scans are still developing.

UIDAI has waived biometric update fees for Aadhaar cards of children aged 7 to 15 years.

The free facility began on October 1, 2025, and will remain available for one year.

Earlier, families had to pay Rs 125 for biometric updates, but now the process is completely free.

Biometric updates are mandatory at ages 5 and 15, and UIDAI has urged parents to complete them on time.

Nearly 6 crore children are expected to benefit from this decision.

This move strengthens children’s digital identity and makes access to education, scholarships, and welfare schemes easier under Digital India. (All Images: Representative)
