J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday (May 1, 2026) said there was no move to drop Urdu from the revenue services of the Union Territory (UT), as Opposition parties are up in arms over the recruitment rules allegedly dropping Urdu as a mandatory subject for middle and lower rung jobs.

“There is no move to drop Urdu. We only sought public feedback, the file remains with me and I have no intention of approving it,” said Mr. Abdullah.
