A 400-metre-long skywalk is set to be constructed at the Noida Sector-62/63 intersection, with an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore. This development is expected to benefit 50,000 pedestrians daily.
Modern Circular Skywalk At Sector-62/63
The Noida Authority is planning to build a modern circular skywalk at the Sector-62/63 intersection, adjacent to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. The primary goal is to ensure safe passage for pedestrians contending with heavy traffic and to facilitate smoother vehicular movement. The skywalk will have a circular design and will span around 400 metres in length. An iron roof will cover the structure, providing protection from rain and heat.
Additionally, escalators and lifts will be installed on both sides to improve accessibility for all, including senior citizens, women, and persons with disabilities.
Integration With Existing Foot Overbridge
The new skywalk will connect to the existing foot overbridge on the highway, allowing pedestrians from Ghaziabad to reach Noida without crossing traffic. Initially, a simple foot overbridge was planned for this location; however, a recent survey indicated it would not be sufficiently effective.
The detailed project report (DPR) for the skywalk has been prepared, estimating the cost at Rs 40 crore, and has received in-principle approval. The design will be reviewed by IIT before construction begins.
Benefit For 50,000 People
Survey results show that approximately 50,000 people cross this intersection daily, with many being bus and auto passengers from Delhi, Meerut, Ghaziabad, and Noida. This uncontrolled movement often disrupts traffic. The skywalk will provide a safe route for pedestrians from all directions.
The skywalk is part of a larger Noida Authority initiative, which includes constructing a 3.5 km model road from Sector-62 to Mamura. This corridor serves thousands of commuters daily, given the presence of office complexes, metro stations, and residential societies. Peak hours usually see heavy traffic jams.
Additional Upgrades
The authority’s plan also includes widening roads, constructing footpaths, developing parking facilities, and redesigning U-turn points. The three U-turns from NH-9 to Mamura Chowk, which currently slow down traffic, will be improved.
A new auto-rickshaw stand will also be built at the NH-9 entry point to address frequent traffic jams caused by uncontrolled three-wheeler vehicles. The tender for this corridor has been issued, and several agencies have expressed interest.
