Nonagenarian doctor who used to charge ₹10 as consultation fee, passes away

Nonagenarian Dr. T.A. Kanagarathinampillai of Pattukottai, who offered medical consultation by collecting nominal fees from the patients for decades, passed away on June 7.

Inquiries reveal that the nonagenarian, known as Dr. Rathinampillai, was born in 1929 and commenced his medical consultation in 1959. Initially, he collected ₹2 as fees from his patients and 20 years later, increased it by ₹3. From 2007, he started collecting ₹10 as consultation fees from the patients.

He had assisted more than 60,000 women in deliveries. He is survived by his wife, a son, who is also a medical practitioner, and three daughters.
