US President Donald Trump on Monday said he was not offering Iran anything nor talking. He refused to hold any discussions with Iranian leaders. Trump’s statement comes as a response to Iran’s deputy foreign minister’s statement mentioning that talks between Washington and Tehran cannot resume unless the US rules out further strikes on Iran.

In a late night post on Truth Social, Trump said, “I am not offering Iran ANYTHING, unlike Obama, who paid them $Billions under the stupid ‘road to a nuclear weapon JCPOA (which would now be expired!), nor am I even talking to them since we totally OBLITERATED their Nuclear Facilities."

Speaking to BBC, Majid Takht-Ravanchi said that the US had signalled it wants to return to the negotiating table. “We have not agreed to any date, we have not agreed to the modality. Right now we are seeking an answer to this question. Are we going to see a repetition of an act of aggression while we are engaging in dialogue?" Takht-Ravanchi told BBC.

He further said that US has also signalled that it did “not want to engage in regime change" by targeting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Notably, both Iran and the US were engaged in discussions over Tehran’s nuclear programme when Israel hit Iranian nuclear sites and military infrastructure. The US also joined the attack against Iran by bombing three nuclear sites — Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan — on June 21.

On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi also addressed the ongoing tensions between Iran and the US. He said US President should not use ‘disrespectful tone’ towards Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei.

“The complexity and tenacity of Iranians are famously known in our magnificent carpets, woven through countless hours of hard work and patience. But as a people, our basic premise is very simple and straightforward: we know our worth, value our independence, and never allow anyone else to decide our destiny," Iranian Foreign Minister wrote on X.
