Despite being slapped with 74 charges concerning their historic transfers, Chelsea is keen to be a busy team during the January transfer window of the Premier League. The Blues are eyeing three major picks, even as their business could be subjected to restrictions by the Football Association (FA).

Chelsea bolstered their squad and particularly their attacking line during the summer transfer window while also securing good deals for players they wished to let go. Now, coach Enzo Maresca’s men are looking to make an enormous splash in the next transfer opportunity.

FA came hard against the Blues for alleged breaches of the body’s regulations relating to agents, intermediaries and third-party investments made between 2009 and 2022. A high number of the 74 charges are focused on Chelsea’s transfers between 2010 and 2016, made under their previous owner, Roman Abramovich. The club has faced a similar investigation into those transfers by the Premier League bosses.

Chelsea faced transfer bans during the 2009 and 2019 Premier League seasons and now must avoid a third amidst reports of having lined up marquee transfer targets for the rest of the season. According to Caught Offside, “The west London giants will now focus on Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers as one of their top targets for January or next summer."

“Chelsea’s interest in signing Rogers is no secret, with the England international having been on their radar during the summer, while other top clubs have also been impressed by his form for Villa."

Who Is Chelsea Buying Next?

Chelsea would have to offer a huge deal to get Rogers, one of the hottest properties in the game today, for a move from Villa Park before completing the five years left in his existing contract. The 23-year-old England international showed signs of regaining his best form during the 5-0 win over Serbia in FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday, September 10.

Two other players are in Chelsea’s radar for the January transfers. “Juventus’ Kenan Yildiz is on Chelsea’s radar, along with Lyon’s Malick Fofana," reports the Caught Offside. “Rogers is well-liked by Chelsea’s recruitment team, but Yildiz and Fofana are two other names to watch if a deal proves too expensive or complicated to get done."

How Chelsea manages to secure these players’ services amidst the 74 charges controversy with a potential transfer ban looming remains to be seen.
