Notice issued to ex-leader of opposition Govind Singh’s family in encroachment case

BHOPAL: The municipality in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh issued notices to 10 people, including senior Congress leader and former Leader of Opposition Dr Govind Singh’s son, Amit Pratap Singh, and brother, Gajendra Singh, for alleged encroachment on govt land.Officials said the family’s kothi was built on Arazi numbers 2711 and 2715 — land earmarked for a public road and pond. A demarcation by the Revenue Department in July 2024 confirmed the encroachment. The finding was upheld by Lahar tehsildar and later by SDM Vijay Singh Yadav, who dismissed appeals and termed the process legal.Municipality CMO Ramashankar Sharma told local media that copies of the notices were also sent on WhatsApp and warned that “if no reply is received within the given time, legal action will be taken.”

Notices were also pasted on shuttered houses and shops after many shopkeepers locked their establishments and left before the drive.Meanwhile, residents of Majhtaura ward number 12, mostly from the Dalit community, have been on an indefinite dharna for more than 400 days, demanding the restoration of the govt road. The agitation is being led by the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Committee.
