Notification shortly for recruitment of 3,600 policemen, says Parameshwara

Home Minister G. Parameshwara told the Legislative Council on Thursday that recruitment notification for filling 3,600 vacant posts in the Police Department will be issued shortly, as the Finance Department has given the requisite approval.

Replying to member Jagadev Guttedar during Question Hour in the Council, the Home Minister said that as the process for providing internal reservation has been completed, the recruitment process has gained momentum.

And, with regard to the notification issued before the process of internal reservation was initiated, he said that recruitment of 947 police sub-inspectors was completed. Now, the selected candidates are undergoing training. This apart, 167 Home Guards have also been appointed, he said.

To be dismissed

Replying to question from member Sharavana T.A., the Home Minister categorically stated that those policemen who are found guilty of conniving with criminals and indulging in crimes will be dismissed from service.

He mentioned that 88 police personnel and officers have been thus suspended, criminal cases have been registered against them and in some cases, they have been arrested also.

Considering the matter seriously, the senior officials in the department have been directed to monitor the functioning of police personnel and officers under them, he said and added that regular sensitization programmes are also being conducted.

Drug menace

Replying to member Keshav Prasad S., the Home Minister said that 6,768 cases have been registered under NDPS Act 1985 during 2023, 4,168 during 2024 and 5,930 during 2025, while drugs in all worth ₹484.21 crore have been seized since 2023.

Since 2023, nearly 300 foreign students involved in drug peddling have been deported.
