SIT formed to probe IIM Calcutta rape case, accused in Police custody
A nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by Kolkata Police to probe the alleged rape case at IIM Calcutta. The SIT, headed by DCP Southwest Division, will investigate the incident reported to have occurred in the Boys' Hostel. The accused, a 26-year-old student, is in police custody until July 19th. The survivor alleges she was called for a counselling session, drugged, and assaulted. IIM Calcutta has stated they are treating the matter with utmost seriousness. This case follows recent incidents at a medical college and law college in Kolkata, sparking political debate between BJP and TMC over women's safety in West Bengal. The accused's father has denied the allegations, claiming no sexual assault took place.
