Odisha to launch pilot drive for 2027 Census enumeration using mobile app

Bhubaneswar: A pilot drive will start at four places, including Bhubaneswar, for the 2027 Census enumeration from Nov 10, with data collection to be carried out using a mobile application for the first time, officials said.Officials said the experimental data collection will be done in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Thakurmunda in Mayurbhanj district, and Tentulikhunti in Nabarangpur. In Bhubaneswar, 60 teachers, who have been trained as enumerators, will carry out door-to-door data collection and feed figures into the app. There will be 10 supervisors, whose training will be completed before Nov 10.Officials said the drive will run till Nov 30, and data will be uploaded on the spot in the ‘Census Management Monitoring System’ app, handled by the ministry of home affairs. “The drive will help us gauge how the technology is helping collect and store data so that, based on discrepancies (if any), modifications can be incorporated for the 2027 Census,” an officer said.
