Of 2L sqm land left, only 20% is barren, says Codar comunidade

Ponda: The Codar comunidade vice-president, Vishram Gaonkar, who is at the forefront of the people’s group opposing the IIT at Codar, said they have just 2 lakh sqm which is 20% barren land, while 80% land is under cultivation.Gaonkar said govt has allotted 30 days to register objections against the land acquisition and the villagers will do so on Monday.He said they have submitted a representation mentioning their views and opinions against the proposal to the local MLA Subhash Shirodkar on Wednesday evening.Gaonkar said the MLA tried to convince them that villagers would get jobs and construction contracts if the project comes to their village. “However, we brought to his notice that none from the village have got jobs in the agricultural farm at Codar. The jobs and contracts are finalised by top authorities,” he said.The comunidade has already given 10 lakh sqm for the agricultural farm at Codar and it’s not proper to seek more land from the same comunidade, he said.
