Officials begin preparations for winter session at Suvarna Soudha

Officers of the district administration and the police have begun preparations for hosting the winter session of the State Legislature in Belagavi starting on December 8.

Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs H.K. Patil announced this in Bengaluru on Thursday. He said that the Cabinet has decided that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is authorised to take the final decision on the schedule.

The Chief Minister has directed various Cabinet Sub-Committees to submit their reports at the earliest, so that they can be taken up for discussion during the session.

Meanwhile, a series of meetings are going on in various departments in Belagavi.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan has formed several district committees to ensure smooth organisation of the session.

A committee will be in charge of security. Its members will work with the city and district police. They will ensure that all participants, including legislators, their staff, officers of various departments, media, outsourced staff and visitors are given entry pass.

Food arrangements are being made for officers, staff and marshals arriving for the session on the ground floor of the Suvarna Soudha as it was done the last time.

Similarly, steps will be taken to set up a paid canteen outside the Suvarna Soudha. Food safety officers will be deployed at the venue.

Suitable places will be identified for protests to be held outside the Suvarna Soudha. Facilities like shelter and drinking water should be provided.

A team of doctors and enough ambulances will be deployed at the protest site and places where the Chief Minister, Ministers and MLAs will stay. Similarly, an ambulance along with medical staff will be arranged at the Suvarna Soudha.

Appropriate transport arrangements will be made for Ministers, MLAs, officers and staff arriving for the session. A team of officers, including those from Kannada and Culture Department will organise cultural programmes on the Suvarna Soudha premises during the session.

Mr. Roshan has directed officials to ensure that there are no disruptions in the telephone and internet systems during the session.

Police Commissioner Gulbarao Bhushan Bhorase has said that necessary documents should be obtained from the public coming to watch the session at the time of issuing entry pass for security reasons.

He said that entry pass issued for vehicles arriving at the Suvarna Soudha will be checked.
